Welcome to Year 2

In Year 2 all our learning is delivered in a stimulating, creative and thematic approach. We have lots to learn but intend to have a lot of fun!

Spring 1:

eden space artwork

This term our theme is ‘A Journey into Outer Space’. We will be focusing on lots of exciting learning around the theme of space. We will journey into space through our imagination, Science and History.

In English we are basing our work around the texts 'The Way Back home' and 'How to Catch a Star' both written by Oliver Jeffers. Throughout our exploration of these texts, we will look at some different vocabulary as well as inference, grammar and narrative skills. We will also be doing some work around space themed poetry and learning how to write some free verse poems. We will be using our Talk for Writing approach when introducing these texts.

Times tables - we are working incredibly hard this year to learn our 2, 5 and 10 times tables. There are so many games, activities and apps that can support you and your child in learning these fundamental skills. Please ask us if you need any support.

Reading Challenge!

This year we will be following a new reading challenge. The children can travel through their class reading challenge adventure and collect gold stars along the way. Each gold star is worth a raffle ticket. There will be a raffle draw every half term and the children have a chance to win a brand new book to keep. We hope you will join us in developing a love of reading in your child by reading regularly at home. If you have any questions regarding our new reading challenge, please do not hesitate to ask Miss Coates or Miss Cooke.
