In Year 2 all our learning is delivered in a stimulating, creative and thematic approach. We have lots to learn but intend to have a lot of fun!
'Welcome to The Circus'
In English we are basing our work around the text 'If I Ran The Circus' by Dr Seuss and 'Mr Benn At The Circus'. We will be looking at lots of different genres of writing this term; narrative, instructions and diary entries to name a few. We will also be beginning our exciting topic with a poem 'Baggy Trousers':
Nose, bright red,
A silly hat
Upon his head.Squirting flower
A teardrop fallingFrom his eye.
His car exploding
With a BANG!
A patchwork coat
Those flapping shoes,
A painted smile
To chase the blues.
Making us laugh
And banish that frown,
The simple duties
Of a clown.
In Maths, we will be consolidating our knowledge of the four operations; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will also we looking at fractions. We will be deepening our understanding through a mastery approach with lots of investigations and reasoning.
Times tables - we are working incredibly hard this year to learn our 2, 5 and 10 times tables. There are so many games, activities and apps that can support you and your child in learning these fundamental skills. Please ask us if you need any support.
This year we will be following a new reading challenge. The children can travel through their class reading challenge adventure and collect gold stars along the way. Each gold star is worth a raffle ticket. There will be a raffle draw every half term and the children have a chance to win a brand new book to keep. We hope you will join us in developing a love of reading in your child by reading regularly at home. If you have any questions regarding our new reading challenge, please do not hesitate to ask Miss Coates or Miss Cooke.
