In English we are basing our work around the text 'A Child's Garden - A story of hope' by Michael Foreman. Throughout our exploration of this text, we will look at vocabulary as well as inference, grammar and narrative skills. Alongside this text we will be using the book 'Wall' by Tom Clohsycole to further enrich our understanding and exposure to fabulous narrative covering the difficult subject of the impact of war.  We will be using our Talk for Writing approach throughout our English Lessons.

In Maths, we will be continuing with decimals, then moving onto money, time and statistics. We will be deepening our understanding through a mastery approach with lots of investigations and reasoning.

Times tables - By the end of Year 4 children need to know all their times tables facts to 12x12. We test their times tables knowledge on Fridays. There are so many games, activities and apps that can support you and your child in learning these fundamental skills. Please ask us if you need any support.

 Other areas of the curriculum:

In Science we will be learning about teeth and the digestive system! We will be discovering how the digestive system works in humans, why animals have different types of teeth, and a variety of food chains. We will be investigating how the digestive system works by making our own working model and the effect different drinks have on the health of our teeth.

In RE, we will be learning about Islam and Islamic family life. We will be exploring the values of everyday life for Muslim families through the themes of honesty, respect, kindness and caring for others. We will also be learning about the naming of a child ceremony.

In History we will be looking at the English Civil War. We will be learning about the 'Roundheads' and 'Cavaliars', why Parliament wanted to kill King Charles I, Oliver Cromwell, the Restoration and the events at the Battle of Winnington Bridge.

In DT we will be learning about the different food groups and eating a healthy, balanced diet.  We will learn about food hygiene and safety and how to chop and slice food safetly. We will then use this to help us design and make a sandwich meal for a family member.

In SEAL this half term our topic is 'Good to be me and relationships'.

We will be learning to apply our computing skills to Surreal Photography.

We will also be expanding on our basic French language skills and applying them when talking to one another.

In Year 4 we will do PE on Wednesday and Thursday. This half term we will be focusing on Quad kids and Tennis as well as preparing for our annual Sports Day.

Please make sure PE kits are in school at all times.

Summer PE uniform: Black shorts, trainers, a white T shirt and a jumper.

Homework, spellings and reading

English and Maths homework will continue to be set on Wednesday and is due in on the following Monday.  Spellings and times tables are given out on Monday and the test will be carried out on the Friday.

We also ask that you read with your child at least 4 times a week and record this in their planner.
