More than just the first year
When you choose a primary school, you’re choosing somewhere that could be part of your family’s life for the next seven years.
At Barnton, we want children to leave us at the end of Year 6 as confident, curious and caring young people who are ready for the next stage of their journey.
From those first exciting days in Reception through to their final year with us, we are proud to inspire them to believe in themselves and achieve their full potential.
Already part of our Nursery?
If your child attends Barnton Community Nursery, they already have the opportunity to become familiar with our school environment, staff and routines before starting Reception.
Our Nursery and Reception teams work closely together to help make the move into school as positive and familiar as possible.
Please remember: attending Barnton Community Nursery does not automatically guarantee a Reception place. You will still need to apply for a school place through the usual admissions process.
New to Barnton? Welcome!
Your child doesn’t need to attend our Nursery to join Barnton in Reception.
Every September, we welcome children from different nurseries, pre-schools, childminders and home settings. Our transition programme is designed to help every child become familiar with their new teachers, classroom and classmates before their first day.
We’ll also work closely with you as parents and carers, because nobody knows your child better than you do.
Is my child due to start school in September 2027?
Children starting Reception in September 2027 will usually have been born between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023.
Applications for Reception places are made through your local authority rather than directly to the school.
